Dr. Romules Durant, the CEO/Superintendent of Toledo Public Schools, stands as an inspiration for innovation and dedication in the field of education. As the 29th superintendent of TPS, Dr. Durant has exemplified an unparalleled commitment to his hometown of Toledo and his dynamic leadership has led the district on a path of success.

Last year, he celebrated his 10th anniversary at the helm of Toledo Public Schools, the fifth-largest school district in Ohio. According to the Council of Great City Schools, Dr. Durant is currently the longest-serving superintendent of a large urban school district within its network of 78 school districts. Dr. Durant is traveling to Dallas, Texas later this week for the Council of Great City Schools annual fall conference – he has been named as a finalist for the Council’s prestigious Superintendent of the Year Award. We are hopeful that Dr. Durant’s esteemed colleagues recognize his dedication, passion for innovation and his commitment to public education and that he receives the Green Garner Award.

Toledo Public Schools now has five thematic magnet high schools which enhance the diverse interests of students from across the region. These schools foster a culture of academic excellence for their students. Each has established strong partnerships with area industry leaders in the hopes of developing a pipeline of new employees and keeping TPS graduates in Toledo.

Dr. Durant’s influence and reputation extend far and wide as he currently serves on 14 area boards of trustees. He has also received numerous accolades during his professional career, including the Ohio School Board Association President’s Award, and the Buckeye Association of School Administrators Exemplary Leadership Award.

A holder of three degrees from the University of Toledo, Dr. Durant’s commitment to excellence echoes through every facet of his professional journey. As he looks to the future, he plans to continue spearheading transformative change that will continue to propel the district to new heights.
