LAW DAY Featuring - Judge Christine E. Mayle

 

Judge Christine E. Mayle serves on the Sixth District Court of Appeals.  The Sixth District sits in Toledo, Ohio, and is the appellate court for Northwest Ohio.  The court has jurisdiction to decide appeals from courts in Lucas, Wood, Fulton, Williams, Ottawa, Sandusky, Erie, and Huron counties.

Judge Mayle received her J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 2001, and her B.A. degree, summa cum laude, from Providence College in 1998.  After graduation, she practiced law with Dewey Ballantine LLP in New York City for several years.  After moving to Toledo she joined the law firm of Cooper & Walinski LPA and, subsequently, Thacker Robinson Zinz LPA. While in private practice, Judge Mayle represented companies in litigation across the country and internationally, helped individuals pro bono, and served on various charitable and legal-aid boards.

Judge Mayle was elected to the Sixth District Court of Appeals in November 2016. In 2017, she was elected by her peers to a two-year term as Presiding Judge of the court. In 2018, Judge Mayle was appointed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Ohio to serve as a visiting judge on that court to decide The Cincinnati Reds v. Joseph W. Testa, Tax Commision of Ohio, Case No. 2017-0854.

Judge Mayle has volunteered for several community and professional organizations. Currently, she serves on the Executive Committee of the Ohio Court of Appeals Judges Association, and as an elected member of the board of the Toledo Bar Association. In addition to her service on the TBA board, Judge Mayle is also an active member of several Toledo bar committees, including Bar Admissions, Kiroff Bench-Bar, and the Diversity, Inclusion, and Race Equity committees. She is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Toledo. She previously served as Editor-in-Chief of the American Bar Association Section of Litigation’s Woman Advocate Committee’s award-winning newsletter, The Woman Advocate. She is a member of the Toledo Women’s Bar Association, Wood County Bar Association, and the American Inns of Court, Morrison R. Waite Chapter.

Judge Mayle and her husband Andrew have three children.
