Dr. Michael Bower

Mike Bower will discuss what Owens Community College provides for their students: affordability, college transfer, and workforce training. Dr. Bower is the sixth president and CEO of Owens CC who began his appointment in 2012. Previously, Mike served as president of Lake Erie State College in North Dakota. Before joining higher education, Dr. Bower was employed with Ford Motor Company and Thomson Consumer Electronics.  Mike is an experienced educator and dedicated to advancing higher education. Dr. Bower is focused on increasing access and support for students who come from all walks of life, as well as improving the quality of life in our community. He serves as a consultant-evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission Peer Review Corps. His background in business industry, and education merits him as a commissioner for the American Association of Community Colleges’ Commission on Economic and Workplace Development, a member for the American Association of Community Colleges’ Voluntary Framework of Accountability for Workforce and Economic Development (VFAWE), and president and executive board for the Council of North Central Two-Year Colleges (CNCTYC). Dr. Bower earned an Associate Degree of Applied Science in automotive technology from Vincennes University, Indiana, his Bachelor of Science in industrial technology from Indiana State University, his MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University, and his Ph.D. in education, administration, curriculum, and instruction with an emphasis in educational leadership and higher education from the University of Nebraska.
